This year’s cohort members focus on music, visual art, performance art, photography, filmmaking, storytelling, installations, fiber arts and more. 

“There are currently no widely distributed magazines made by our people, for our people, that provide both a historic lens and political analysis on this moment in time. The LANDBACK Magazine is one critical way we can be sure to archive our stories; past, present, and future.” 

The first few days of COP28 included the opening of the Indigenous Peoples' Pavilion, Opening Plenary Statements, panels, and solidarity with Palestine.

“We know that taking over spaces is a necessary part of the work of decolonizing institutions. The Pavilion enables us to create our own pocket of power – because we know that even as we advocate for our rights in negotiations with states, our strength comes from our relationships with each other.” 

“Our inherent, distinct, internationally-recognized rights are affirmed in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples – we will not allow these rights to be diminished, undermined, combined or confused in any way.”

“Our tribal governments must step up to enforce our treaty rights and protect the Black Hills. We will continue working to bring the people of Rapid City together to fight against industries that threaten our livelihoods.”

“We are here to uplift and support Indigenous Peoples both from the US and globally who are participating in the local communities and Indigenous Peoples platform."
